|
Q When I try to download from a web page,
it runs ok but no files appear in the File List. Why?
A Check the
Link Contains/Ends with setting. If you have entered information
that does not appear on the web page, no links will be found.
Try leaving this
box blank and double-clicking on the URL. This will display a list
of all available files on the web page.
|
|
006
|
Q My browser works fine, but the PatSee log just reports
''Null remote address!. What's wrong?
A
Check the proxy settings in Setup/Preferences. If you have a proxy server,
it must be spelt correctly and have the correct port number. If you
do not use a proxy server, this box must be left blank. Check the
PatSee help file for details on finding out your proxy settings.
|
|
007
|
Q When I try to download a file,
PatSee comes up with a Proxy login box. What do I type in?
A
Often this is your normal computer login name and password. If the box re-appears,
you need to speak to your system administrator. PatSee supports
Basic Authentication for proxy servers.

|
Q When I try to download a file,
PatSee comes up with a Web login login box. What do I type in?
A
The web site you are trying to download from requires a user name and password to identify
you. PatSee supports Basic Authentication for web servers.
|
|
009
|
Q Why should I register?
A
Many hours have been spent developing and testing the software.
Some recompense would be nice..... If PatSee is not registered,
a reminder box pops up ever so often. Irritating,
isn't it?
|
|
010

you have to delete them manually. The normal installation
directory for PatSee is c:\program files\Image Applications\PatSee.
|
|
013
|
Q I've tried everything above and PatSee still doesnt work. What can I do?
A
Choose Setup/Preferences and set the log to record URLS, Files, HTTP codes, errors.
Then try to download the page and look in the log. The additional error codes may help
you to identify the problem. If this does not help, send me the log
via email or
submit it as a bug.

|
Q When searching for PCT/World patents should I use the PCT/GB98/01234 number or
the WO98/056789 number?
A
You use the WO number but without the "/" and with an A1 added.
Your example would be typed in as patent://WO98056789A1

|
Q When I select 'print files' in Setup/Preferences and print Acrobat .PDF files,
I am asked to confirm the settings for every page, which is very irritating.
How do I stop this?
A
Acrobat version 3 always asks for confirmation before printing.
Update your version of Acrobat to 4.0 or later. You can download this for free from
Adobe.
Note: If you want to print all your files after the download has been
completed, simply select them all in Windows Explorer, right-click on the selection and
choose print.

|
016
|
Q If I print out my files after download using Windows Explorer,
they print in a strange order. Why?
A
When you right-click on the selected files in Explorer, it is sensitive to where you
click. If you right-click on the first file, they will print in order.
If you click on a file in the middle, it will print from that
file, backwards to the first file, then forwards from where you clicked.
Consider the following files:
file1.tif
file2.tif
file3.tif
file4.tif
file5.tif
If you select all these files and then right-click
on file1.tif and select print, the files are printed in the expected order
(1-5).
If you right-click on file3.tif and select
print, the files are printed in the following order:
file3.tif
file2.tif
file1.tif
file4.tif
file5.tif
The reason for this eludes myself, my colleagues
and the man in the corner shop where I buy my papers. The answer
is, of course to always click on the first file to get the expected print
order.

|
Q Why I can't download a certain patent number with PatSee?
A
It may be that the patent you are looking for is not kept on the server you are trying
to access. Try to find the patents manually using your browser. Is the publication
an A1 or A2 or B1 etc?
If you can find a patent using your browser,
but not with PatSee, please let us know, quoting the patent number, country
and publication for example, US5000000A1.

|
019
|
Q I have my registration keys but cannot get PatSee to recognise them.
What's wrong?
A
See the section in the help file entitled 'Registering PatSee'. Also remember that your
keys only work for the version of the software you purchased. Therefore, 1.17, 2.0 Lite
and 2.0 Pro keys will only work for their respective versions.
|
|

|
Q What platforms does PatSee run on?

Is your internet connection working? Can you browse the web with your browser?
